Water is an old standby and probably one of the first things most people try. Unfortunately, while it does provide some lubrication, it just doesn't work all that well. I always end up feeling a little chafed. Now if you properly use a jet of water as a masturbation tool (I'm talking specialty shower heads, hoses, faucets, and that sort of thing) water can be absolutely fantastic. But as a lubricant between your penis and your hand or anything else, it's not so great.
